Our History

We would like to share our birth with you.

PART1
Crossroads was born in May 1994.
Many of Gods people were saying to me, "did you hear about so and so - they're not going on with God anymore", and you know what, there was no caring in those statements, just coldness. It affected Gods heart so much that he decided to share it with my heart in that he asked me to do something about it. So then, my vision from God was to open up a Church that would 'CARE'.
After much prayer and searching, in May 1994 my wife and I opened up in 'borrowed premises'. We wondered what would happen next and we're still wondering week by week!
We have in our fellowship approximately 100 people, with probably 50 to 60 others who attend most Sunday nights. My wife and I are so honoured to pastor and care for such a group of Christians. We didn't have any idea we would be doing this sort of work when we first got saved, but God did.
"I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it, I will also do it." (Isa. 46:11). Be encouraged - God has great things in store for you as well.

PART 2

For three years (since 1998), every Friday from 1-2 o'clock I have met for prayer with a very good friend of mine who is the Pastor of the "Upper Room Church". One Friday in 1999, God gave me a "Second Vision" while my friend was praying. He showed me a hand with a scroll in it, tied with the most beautiful ribbon. I could only identify with two of the colours - the rest were beyond description. They were incredibly beautiful. A hand came forward and beckoned me to take the scroll. I did, and began to untie that beautiful ribbon. I turned round to set the ribbon down on a table that I thought was covered by a cloth, only it wasn't a cloth but a brilliant white 'cloud'. I then proceeded to unroll the "Scroll" and to my surprise it was a cheque for four hundred thousand pounds. I quickly rolled it up, took the ribbon and tied it exactly the way it had been and said to God "Mind that until I need it because I'm not that good with money". I knew then God had asked me to move from our borrowed premises as He did from that borrowed tomb, to raise to His Glory, a home of our own.

PART 3

So there you have it - God was asking me to build him a Church of our own and He would pay for it. "WOW!!" I shared this with the Elders of the church and after a short while this 'vision' kicked into their hearts also, and I am so humbled to say we are one with this vision.
At Crossroads we have always said that what we have in the bank is not money, but ministry. When we see needs we meet them under Gods Spiritual Guidance. I believe with all my heart that is why this will happen.
Could I just say at this point I am eternally indebted to the Elders at Crossroads, as without their support, love and care I would not have a story to tell.

PART 4

Obviously this ongoing story as it "broke" had touched the hearts of many - saved and unsaved alike, so much so that just a few fields away there is a 'wee mission hall' called Craigantlet Mission Hall and would you believe it, it was opened for the "Glory of God" in 1912. Just about a year ago the Elders of that Mission hall approached me to see if we would be interested in taking up the task of keeping Gods light lit in that area, as their existing members are now, after years of dedicated service, quite few. Again, the elders, deacons and members of our fellowship as one voice agreed. One of the trustees and his wife offered us an acre of additional land to build this new home for us and God and they are now very dear friends to all of us at Crossroads.

PART 5

We prayed that God would direct us to an Architect who would take on the Design for this new building and God being God did so, a christian man called Michael Whitley. The site is in the 'Green Belt' in the middle of beautiful rolling County Down countryside overlooking Belfast Lough, an idyllic setting for us, but not one to encourage planning departments with environmental issues high on the agenda to say yes. With Gods help, would you believe, the drawings passed at the first presentation. Remarkably, it has taken 'half' the time it normally would for us to be at this stage, but then when you think of it, this is not natural, its spiritual, its Gods gift to us.
Where the Mission Hall is situated, there has never been mains water on the site. We knew it would costly as the water mains are quite far away. Just a month before Christmas 2001 the D.O.E. began upgrading and extending the water mains which now terminates, would you believe, right outside our front door as it were, even before we have begun to build! God moved a mountain to give us water, is this or is this not Gods gift to us?
This story is not to ask you for four hundred thousand pounds, but it is asking you for four hundred thousand prayers. We believe we will be needing this money soon and will provide the text for the unwritten part 6, so WATCH THIS SPACE!

PART 6

Let me begin writing again with an apology, I left you with a negative in that my closing remarks were, WATCH THIS SPACE, when I really should have said, 'WATCH THIS GRACE.' Could I also say it's now been 6 years since the last words, and it's been incredible, it's been challenging, it's been frightening, it's been disappointing, and yet it's a blessing when you realise that for God it hasn't been 6 years, it's just the right time, the perfect time. Isn't He incredible!
So then, what has happened in the last six years? Well, we now have a builder who is prepared to assist us in any way he can, knowing that our project is one of Faith, depending on God to keep His word when He said He would provide the finances (£400,000), and that this building would come alive without debt.
First of all the real miracle is that this builder can build for us today for £400,000 what others couldn't do six years ago! We believe this is God at His best. This also is a builder who believes God knows best.
The builder has given us an offer which will last until the end of March 2007, simply because he has other projects he is committed to. Please don't think we are holding God to ransom to come up with the money before the end of March, but if you are reading this we beseech you to help us in prayer to believe He will. This time it won't be a 6 year wait, God is Sovereign and His timing is perfect.
Now, it will probably be once again challenging, but we trust and pray, not disappointing.
I close this time with a positive - WATCH THIS GRACE!
